Corona or Not?

Corona or Not

We have been in quarantine for a month. There may be the twinkle of light ahead, and it isn’t a freight train barreling down on us. It’s the very slow beginning of the end which is still a long time and distance in the future. In the meantime, my wife, Gwen, and I remain fairly quarantined but certainly not prisoners in our house.
Coronavirus or not, we have made adjustments to our ordinary lives and have reasonably settled into a quieter lifestyle. Among other things, it includes an ice-cold Corona and a few chips and dip to accompany it on a bright, sunny day in our courtyard or on the rear patio.

In some ways, we have made good headway on our lifestyles: creative cooking with the Instapot; experimented with the Anova pan for meat, fish, and vegetables; and, we went overboard on the breakfast omelets which includes four eggs, boiled and chopped potatoes, green peppers, chopped red onions, mushrooms, and an unhealthy serving of shredded cheese. Served with freshly grilled tortillas and steaming hot coffee, it is a breakfast fit for a king. Or, you can substitute the coffee for an icy Corona with your treat for a late morning brunch.
Nevertheless, despite the virus, I have made significant accomplishments in my writing. Continuing the Border War Series that began with “Color of the Prism” (optioned to Tarantino Productions), the second book in the series will be out this summer. “We Were Young Once …” follows New Mexico State Trooper Enrique Basurto in his undercover assignment along infamous N.M. Highway 9 on the state’s southern border and the near ghost-town of Hachita, New Mexico. As a member of the federal and state Human and Drug Interdiction Task Force, Agent Basurto carries on the work of his granduncle, Antonio Castenada, a Tucson narc who was murdered as a result of his work in the border wars years earlier.

Never one to find myself bored with nothing to do during the quarantine, I have made strides in the development of the third book in the Border War Series. “The Russian” that continues the drug and human trafficking between Chihuahua and New Mexico, and broadens the scope to take in the Russian mafia endeavors along the border.
There is never a dull moment in the Nichols household, quarantine or not. But, it is early afternoon and time now for me to take a break and have a Corona.
